Scorpion Kickboxing
The Scorpion Martial Arts Academy was founded in 1993. It’s Head Coach and founder is Mark J.R. Trent who holds the level of seventh degree Blackbelt in Universal Freestyle Karate/Tae-Kwon-Do under the British Tae-Kwon-Do Association and sixth degree blackbelt in Kickboxing under the World Allstyles and Kickboxing Organisations. Mark started training in Karate in 1979 and began kickboxing, tournament and ring fighting in the mid 1980’s.
After many years of competing on the competition circuit and three title belts later, Mark has pooled all of his knowledge and has through many years of hard work developed a comprehensive Martial Arts package that enables everyone to be able to train and enjoy the Martial Arts and with hard work and dedication work towards achieveing their Scorpion Blackbelt and/or become a fighter/ Kickboxing champion.
The Martial Art style of Kickboxing originated in America in the early 1970’s after many of it’s Karate students decided to try their traditional Karate styles in the boxing ring. Many of the traditional Karate techniques did not work that well and over the next few years a basic syllabus of workable techniques was formulated. Some of the early Kickboxing pioneers were Joe Lewis, Bill ’superfoot’ Wallace, Benny ‘ the jet ‘ Uriqidez, Mike Anderson to name just a few.
The Scorpion Academies Kickboxing Syllabus has also included techniques from the Martial Art of Muay-Thai from Thailand using techniques such as elbow and knee strikes. This style of Martial Art is also known as the deadly art of the eight limbs because you can use your two hands, two feet, two elbows and two knees.
The U.F.K.K.A (Universal Freestyle Karate Kickboxing Association) was formed so that we could run our own Kickboxing shows with fully sanctioned club/association Title belts that have to be fought for in the correct manner and we expect our fighters to have served their ‘apprenticeship’ before being allowed to compete for a Title belt. The U.F.K.K.A. is fully recognised by the World Allstyles and Kickboxing Organisations, British International Kickboxing Martial Association and the World Kickboxing Martial Association. Our Fight Night shows are now very establised and have grown into a respected and well organised Semi and Full contact Kickboxing event. We are very lucky to work with many like minded clubs that supply us with quality amateur fighters. A big thank you to you all.
The Scorpion Academy has produced numerous champions and has had fighters represent Great Britain on the W.A.K.O and I.S.K.A British squads at the European and World Championships.
All Scorpion Kickboxing training sessions are taken by highly experienced Instructors who have themselves have fought in the ring and know first hand the hard work and dedication it takes to compete. (please check out Instructor profiles page).
Both the Scorpion Universal Karate and Kickboxing syllabuses are continually assessed and updated so that we can offer you the very best in training. It is very important to us to keep up to date with the most modern training methods, but to also retain the old ways, values and traditions.
Remember - Train hard - Fight hard - Enjoy it.
