Scorpion Universal Karate
The Scorpion Martial Arts Academy was founded in 1993. It’s founder and Head Coach is Mark J.R. Trent who holds the level of seventh degree Blackbelt in Universal Freestyle Karate/Tae-Kwon-Do under the British Tae-Kwon-Do Association and sixth degree blackbelt in Kickboxing under the World Allstyles and Kickboxing Organisations. Mark started Karate in 1979 and has studied an researched many forms of Martial Arts over the years. The Scorpion Universal Karate Syllabus bases many of it’s techniques upon the Korean Martial Art of Tae-Kwon-Do.
Tae-Kwon-Do was founded in 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi and was originally taught to the armed forces (Oh-Do-Kwan), soon after the general public were taught (Chun-Do-Kwan) and it is the most widely practiced Martial Art in the world.
There are two main groups that head Tae-Kwon-Do, they are the W.T.F. (World Tae-Kwon-Do Federation) and the I.T.F. (International Tae-Kwon-Do Federation). W.T.F. Tae-Kwon-Do is an Olympic sport and features many exciting kicking techniques. It is also renowned for it’s amazing wood breaking skills and self defence moves.
The Scorpion Academy is a full member of the British Tae-Kwon-Do Association ( B.T.A. ) which is headed by Grand Master Roy Kilner and Grand Master Tony Quigley. We are very lucky to be associated with the first Tae-Kwon-Do Association that was set up in this country by Grand Masters Tony Quigley and Fred Lee, and in 2007 Mark was voted on as Vice President which is a great honour. Many of today’s top Tae-Kwon-Do Masters owe a great debt of thanks to Grand Masters Tony Quigley and Fred Lee.
The Scorpion Universal Karate syllabus includes many throws and takedowns, weapons, self defence techniques, special empty hand patterns that are unique to the Scorpion Academy, sparring, grappling and many striking, punching and kicking techniques. Working alongside the Scorpion empty hand patterns we also teach the W.T.F. Chun-Do-Kwan patterns as taught to us by the B.T.A., and Scorpion Chief Coach and U.F.K.K.A. Vice President Andy Lewis.
Training in the Martial Arts is a great way to improve your fitness, confidence, wellbeing, ability to defend yourself and many more positive values. Both the Universal Karate and Kickboxing syllabuses are continually assessed and updated so that we can offer you the very best in training. It is very important that you keep up to date on modern training methods but equally important to retain many of the old ways, values and traditions.
There are many paths to the top of the mountain - Enjoy the journey.
