B.T.A.

The British Tae-Kwon-Do Association

The British Tae-Kwon-Do Association was jointly started in 1968 by Grand Master Tony Quigley and Grand Master Fred Lee, both Ninth Degree Blackbelts. G.M. Tony started the study of Tae-Kwon-Do in 1964 whilst serving in the R.A.F. whilst stationed in Korea. After two years of training G.M.Tony returned back to Britain as the very first person to do so with a Tae-Kwon-Do Blackbelt. Under G.M.Tony’s guidance the B.T.A. went from strength to strength. The B.T.A. has produced many superb Blackbelts, with many achieving the Master level and a few achieving the rare level of Grand Master. Indeed many of the top Masters and Grand Masters that head many of the other Tae-Kwon-Do associations and groups within the U.K can trace their roots directly back to Grand Master Tony Quigley. G.M. Tony presides over all B.T.A. Blackbelt gradings along with G.M. Roy Kilner (president) and  Mark J.R. Trent (vice president) and other invited high ranking Masters. The B.T.A. holds four coloured exams and two Blackbelt exams each year as well as running numerous seminars and fight training sessions. Great Grand Master’s seminar - 17th April 2010

Great Grand Master Tony Quigley’s seminar was a huge success with over one hundred and thirty students taking part in a three hour training session. The seminar was held at Master Richard Smiths and Ms. Angie Hinch’s dojang in Scunthorpe which is an absolutely fantastic training facility. A great number of Blackbelts, High ranking Masters and coloured belts were in attendance and were treated to a very exciting session. After a thorough warm up taken by Master Darren Kilner,   Mark J.R.Trent took the floor and treated everyone to a variety of kicking drills, this was followed by Grand Master Roy Kilner demonstrating knife defence, self defence and take downs. Master Darren demonstrated Army self defence techniques, Master Matt Smith and senior instructor Stuart Usher demonstrated one step sparring whilst  Mark Trent and Senior Coach Andy Lewis demonstrated Scorpion self defence. The seminar finished off with Master Darren taking everyone through competition sparring drills and tactics. Great Grand Master Tony Quigley was incredibly impressed with the high standard demonstrated throughout the day and the seminar finished with a unique certificate and badge been presented to everyone in attendance. Special praise must be given to Grand Master Roy Kilner and his wife Carol for organising this unique seminar and to Master Richard Smith and Ms. Angie Hinch for allowing use of their dojang.
